The Picophone is the easy and useful tool if you want to game on the local LAN or you are working with mates in an office. Its is freeware and can be run directly just by opening it. I used it to talk to my friend while playing games on a local network (created virtually by LogMeIn Himachi VPN) and voice quality was rather good.
